Dr. Kamal V. Kasbekar was born on 15/O4/1918 in Ankola. She completed her primary education in Belagavi & Dharwad. Then she joined Grant Medical College Bombay, now Mumbai, for her Undergraduate studies. She pursued her post graduate degree course in the same college & completed her post graduation in obsteretics and Gynaecology in the year 1950. Then she went to UK and completed FRCS in the year 1958.
She met Dr. V. S. Metgud who was in UK at that time in an accident. Later both of them decided to marry. She came back to lndia along with Dr. V.S. Metgud and they got married in the year 1959 She served as Professor and H O D of OB & Gynac Department in Karnataka Medical College Hubli. (Now Karnataka lnstitute of Medical Science Hubballi), ln 1972 Dr. Kamal Kasbekar along with her husband Dr. V. S. Metgud started Kasbekar Metgud Clinic in Belagavi, which was catering to patients of North Karnataka.
On ill fated day that is 18th March 1975,she died in a tragic car accident.
ABOUT HOSPITAL
Kasbekar-Metgud Clinic, the brain child of late Dr. Kamal Kasbekar (Mrs. Metgud) and Dr. V.S. Metgud is situated in Belagavi, on Belagavi-Sambra road near Fort-Lake, opp. Circuit House at Shivaji Nagar Belagavi since 1962. The Clinic is known for its cleanliness and for services provided by complete and qualified medical staff.

Apart from these, other specialists in the field of Orthopaedic, Oncosurgery, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Endoscopy, Urology, visit the clinic as and when necessary. The Clinic has four operation theatres – three for major surgery and one for minor surgery. Infertility Clinic has a separate set up of its own. Specialist Anesthesiologists attend both routine and emergency surgery.
The Clinic has a well equipped laboratory which is run under the guidance of Specialists in the various branches of Lab. Medicine viz:- Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. There are facilities for X-Ray and Ultrasound Scanning.
Hospital has an emergency Cardiac Care Service with Cardiac Monitors. A Canteen is provided to cater for usual eatable tea, coffee and soft drinks.Alcoholic drinks and smoking is not allowed in the Hospital. Purified hot and cold water is provided 24hrs of the day with safe drinking water
There are two kitchens (one on each floor) provided for the patient’s relatives to cook their food. There is a Dhobi Ghat for washing clothes of relatives attending on to their Patients. There is a power Laundry for washing hospital clothes.
There is a fairly large separate out-patient department open during the day and evening timings and closed at night. There is emergency service throughout 24hrs of the day. Out-patients department consists of separate rooms for consultation at different timings. Also our clinic is carrying out lot of Family Planning programme which is a national Programme.
I am proud to say that the National Task Force of India recognized our hospital as a Baby Friendly Hospital.
We have generators of 82.50KVA for supply of electricity in the event of power failure.
Kasbekar Metgud Clinic is recognized by the Government of Karnataka for the treatment of Patients under “AYUSHMAN BHARAT” scheme for covid-19.
The Hospital is empanelled with many insurance companies viz- Medi Assist India Pvt Ltd, Vidal Health TPA Pvt Ltd, Star Health & Allied insurance, Good Health TPA PVT Ltd, Reliance General Insurance, Raksha TPA Pvt Ltd.
